How to Clicker Train Your Horse: Targeting – Part 3

How to Clicker Train Your Horse

Targeting Part 3

In Targeting Part 1 we talked about the importance of treat delivery mechanics and how to use it to ask your horse to back up out of your space, as a safety measure.  In Targeting Part 2 we showed you a video clip that showed good treat delivery mechanics, and so we also wanted to present to you a video clip of horses backing for the treat.

Below is a short clip showing horse backing for treats following a click.  This video clip is nice in that it shows the start of the dance for coming forward to target, click and then back for the treat.  if you continue with this then you will find your horse will back for treats when they hear the click.  As your training progresses you can then remove this part of the dance step but you know it is there should you ever need it back again.

I hope you enjoy…..

Just discovered you through Mary at Stale Cheerios. I’m a relative beginner at clicker, but intend to do more – thanks for having all this information and good advice out there!
